A Trip to Tegucigalpa

Saturday we went to the capital, Tegucigalpa. A bus from the orphanage was going to pick up a team at the airport, so we got a ride into the city with them. Then we took a taxi from the airport to the mall where we got the luxury of shopping at Walmart for some necessary items as well as some not so necessary items. We got everything from a cooking pan and lantern to brownie mix and strawberry jelly. The Walmart is connected to the shopping mall and both were very nice and clean. The Walmart was actually a lot nicer than Walmart in the states. After a couple hours of shopping, we had just enough time to grab some Quiznos for lunch and head back to the airport. We were very fortunate to get a ride to and from the capital on the orphanage bus.

Along with the team form Georgia, there were 7 new volunteers that arrived on Saturday. We are so excited about this because we are very low on volunteers and 6 staff members are on vacation back in the states for a while.

Kari got antibiotics at the clinic on Tuesday for a throat infection and by Thursday her throat was so painful that she couldn’t say a word. She went back to the clinic and was told it had gotten worse and was strep throat. After taking a stronger antibiotic for the past few days she is feeling back to normal. Having a clinic with medication and nurses at the orphanage has been such a blessing for both of us as we have struggled with staying healthy.

Not too much else has happened this week, besides the usual. We have decided that for our first trip outside the country (have to leave the country every 90 days to renew our visa), we are going to go to Antigua, Guatemala. We are looking into doing language school there for at least a week as well as enjoying some rest and relaxation.
