Heat Wave
Spring break in Honduras wouldn't be complete without slip and slides and soccer tournaments. The week before Easter, "Holy Week," is a time where the country seems to shut down. At the orphanage, the children had the week off from school. It was a great time to let loose a little bit, and enjoy the sun. We made slip and slides out of long, durable strips of plastic and made them extra slippery with a little laundry soap. One day the boys went hiking on through the property to a small creek about 2 hours from the orphanage. The kids really enjoyed being in the sun and getting wet. A trampoline plus a hose equaled hours of fun at the toddler house.
Easter week also brought out Kellan's competitive side. He fielded a team of 7 medium boys and entered into the Emmanuel soccer tournament as the "Medianos Unidos". After four grueling days in the heat, a bruised thigh, and a swollen ankle, Kellan's team made it to the championship game. A heartbreaking 4-2 defeat to the "Matadores" gave Kellan's team a second place finish, but everyone had a great time playing.
