Dia Del Nino and More

As of Friday, we have been at the orphanage for one month. It's been a challenging journey so far, but well worth the effort. Kellan overcame his sickness and is feeling much better now. Having an extremely high temperature is alarming because there is always the threat of dengue fever or something of that nature. Thank you for all your prayers concerning our health.

On Friday and Saturday, the orphanage celebrated "Dia Del Nino," or Children's Day. It is a national holiday in Honduras celebrated on September 10. It is almost like an early Christmas for the kids. On Friday they mostly played games and did activities, and on Saturday a youth group from Guaimaca came to the orphanage and put on a show that included dancing and storytelling. It was a wonderful sight to see all the children together in the gym, fully engaged in the show, which was centered around Christ. They also received full bags of candy afterwords, but we made sure they worked off the extra energy on the playground.

On Sunday David and Lydia, the orphanage founders, invited us to lunch after church. We drove to the nearby town of Campamento about 20 minutes away and ate at a restaurant called "Belmont." It was a wonderful treat for us because we not only were able to see a new part of Honduras that includes an array of pine trees, but we were also able to finally eat some meat. Kellan had some carne asada with rice and beans, and Kari ate a chicken breast with french fries and rice. These are very simple meals we could have anytime back in the States, but here in Honduras we were savoring every bite. We had a great talk with David and Lydia, heard more about their testimony, and we shared a bit of our own.
